ABOUT THE ROOM STUDY

Good rooms begin with good questions.

The Room Study is an independent interiors publication with a Shop of furniture, lighting, artwork and homeware from UK and US retailers.

A photograph might make you want a room. We want to help you understand it: why that colour holds the space together, how the furniture makes room for everyday life, and which decisions are worth borrowing for your own home.

Saffron walls surround an oxblood dining table and rounded chairs, with black window frames cutting a strong line through the yellow. One exuberant floral artwork completes the view.

Look around. Then look a little closer.

Rooms

Finished spaces with a distinct point of view, their colour palettes and the thinking behind them. Shop this room brings the featured product references together.

Stories

Longer reads on colour, light, layout and the way we live. Our Room, Reconsidered transformations trace the choices between a before and an after.

Shop

OUR APPROACH

The thinking belongs beside the picture.

A room can begin with a painting, a difficult corner or a piece of furniture you already love. We follow those starting points through: the colours that belong together, the space a chair needs when someone is sitting in it, the light that makes a room inviting after dark. A strong idea should hold up to being lived with.

Our room studies explore design possibilities. Where products are linked, we distinguish featured references from suggested alternatives. Catalogue information is useful evidence, but it is not the same as first-hand testing. You can read more in our editorial policy.

Some product links are affiliate links: we may earn commission on a qualifying purchase. Shopping, payment, delivery and returns take place with the retailer. Our affiliate disclosure explains how those relationships work.

EDITORIAL & SHOP

From a room idea to a piece for your home.

Where do I buy?

Browse the Shop or follow the product selections in our Rooms and Stories. A retailer link takes you to the retailer’s website to check the current price, availability and delivery options, and place your order. The retailer is the seller and handles payment, delivery and returns. The Room Study does not take orders or hold stock.

Can I shop the pieces in a room?

Shop this room brings together linked product references. We distinguish pieces used as design references from suggested alternatives, so check the label and the retailer’s product details for the exact finish, size and specification. An editorial room illustration is not a product photograph.

How are the products chosen?

Our room selections and favourites are editorial picks within a broader retailer catalogue. A catalogue listing is not a claim that we have tested or individually reviewed that product. Choose Shop UK or Shop US to browse products for your market, and confirm delivery with the retailer.

How does The Room Study earn money?

Some retailer links are affiliate links. We may earn a commission on a qualifying purchase, at no extra cost to you. Our affiliate disclosure explains this, and our editorial policy sets out how we keep commercial relationships separate from editorial judgement.
