Warm brick, a rust-toned sofa and a large black-and-white photograph give this loft a strong centre. Speakers, records and a leather chair make listening part of the room.

The brick-walled listening loft

Published

An industrial loft with a tall factory window, exposed beam and brick wall.

The records and speakers share the sitting room. A leather chair can turn towards the music, while the monochrome photograph gives the brick wall a larger, simpler shape to look at.

THE DESIGN

Autofocus sits above the sofa, its graphic black-and-white image holding its own against the brick. A low metal table and the ribbed leather Mirai chair introduce finer reflective lines beside the generous upholstery.

The record player and speakers have a place in the arrangement rather than occupying a separate technology corner. A bold rug defines the seating zone on the concrete floor. The photograph and leather chair are linked; the audio equipment, sofa and other furnishings are styling.

WHY THE ROOM WORKS

The equipment belongs when the seating and artwork share its composition.

01

Colour already in the brick

The wall supplies a broad range of orange and brown. A related sofa colour leaves the monochrome picture and rug free to make the sharper contrasts.

02

A photograph that holds its own

The large monochrome image reads clearly against a textured wall. Its simple value contrast avoids another complex colour pattern.

03

Different furniture weights

Broad upholstery sits beside a thinner metal-framed leather chair. The contrast leaves the seating group substantial without making every piece bulky.

04

Music has a position

The speakers flank the main view and records sit nearby. Actual speaker placement should be tested with the equipment and room, rather than copied from a picture.

05

A defined floor area

The black-and-cream rug gives the seats a shared boundary. Pale concrete remains visible around the group.

WHAT TO BORROW

Place your favourite activity at the centre of the arrangement. Seating, storage and light can make equipment feel part of a room you want to spend time in.
