Raise the bedside storage
Two-drawer cabinets sit against the wall without legs below. Their rounded timber fronts relate to the bed, while the open floor underneath lets the room's horizontal boards continue around the main piece of furniture.

An illustrated concept for Finnish lakeside bedroom.
A slatted oak bed and pale horizontal boards give this Finnish lakeside bedroom concept its easy rhythm. Floating bedsides leave the floor clear, with dark lamp bases and a blue throw providing contrast.
See the product sourcesThe lake gets a full window; the bedroom keeps the rest fairly simple. Warm oak slats cross the pale wall boards, and fine stripes in the bedding introduce a smaller pattern. Floating bedside drawers leave the floor visible beneath them, which is useful in a room where the bed takes most of the space. A pair of dark lamps marks each side without adding much bulk. The coat hooks beside the window are the pleasingly ordinary detail: even a weekend room needs somewhere to put the layer you have just taken off.

Keep the pattern in the lines
Wall boards, bed slats and duvet stripes use different widths of the same simple idea. The dark blue throw interrupts the pale bedding, with enough solid colour to be visible from the doorway.
What to borrow
Try wall-mounted bedside storage where a full cabinet would crowd the floor. Check fixing requirements and reach from the mattress, then leave a simple hook nearby for a robe or jacket so the bed does not become the default clothes rail.
