Joined-up shelving
Painting the bookcases with the wall reduces the contrast around every shelf. Books and objects remain visible without making the joinery look fragmented.

The rose-pink library study
Published
An Edwardian study with two bookcase recesses and daylight arriving beside the desk.
Rose-painted bookcases frame a floral still life, with a dark timber desk by the window and an olive reading chair across the room. Work has a place here; so does staying a little longer.

The shelves and surrounding walls share a muted rose tone. Books add narrow bands of colour, while Flowers in front of a Window gives the central wall a quieter, looser composition. The dark desk keeps the working side of the room substantial.
A reading chair occupies the opposite side with its own small table. The Ulani lamp brings a brass note to the desk; an olive seat and brown leather prevent the pink from becoming the only material story. The painting and lamp are the named Shop references.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
Paint brings the shelves together; two distinct seats give the room more than one use.

A desk beside daylight
The working surface sits near the sash window. Position an actual screen to limit distracting reflections and allow space for the chair to move.
A second place to sit
The olive chair gives reading a place away from the desk. Its separate table makes that seat useful in its own right.
Pink with darker company
Brown leather and timber give the rose walls a firmer balance. The warm metals repeat that depth on a smaller scale.
One quiet picture
The still life's greens, browns and pale passages bridge the wall colour and furniture. It has enough clear wall around it to remain the centre.
WHAT TO BORROW
Give a home office a second comfortable position if space allows. A room that accommodates reading as well as typing is easier to use throughout the day.
