An illustrated concept for Pacific Northwest courtyard bathroom.

A small planted courtyard brings daylight to the end of this Pacific Northwest bathroom. Pale gray tile and a light woodgrain vanity keep the room bright, with black shower fittings and restrained gold-toned details.

The best view in this bathroom belongs to a small tree and some ferns. A screened courtyard sits beyond the tall window, giving the Pacific Northwest concept a green outlook without requiring a large garden. Inside, the vanity occupies the left wall and the glass shower the right, leaving the view visible between them. Fine vertical texture on the cabinet warms the pale gray tile, while three drawers provide storage below the sink. Black shower hardware and a black mirror frame set out the sharper lines; the vanity's gold-toned feet and handles add a smaller glint.

Give the court a clear sightline

The vanity and shower sit on either side of the tall courtyard window. Their placement leaves the planting visible from the doorway, with the screen and timber fence giving the small outdoor space a defined edge.

Mix finishes at different scales

Black forms the shower rail, fittings and mirror outline. Gold-toned handles and feet occupy much smaller areas on the light oak-look vanity, so the two metals have different amounts of work to do.

What to borrow

A small planted court can make a useful bathroom outlook when privacy is designed with it. Keep the sightline clear, then choose a few repeated hardware finishes. Check actual screening from neighboring windows before relying on planting alone.
