Keep some warmth in the whites
Cream upholstery and pale timber sit beside the cooler blue. Keeping those surfaces distinct gives the room more definition than painting and furnishing everything in the same pale shade.

Coastal without the clichés
Updated
Chalk, mineral blue and sandy timber
The view is lovely, but it won't hold a cup or put the remote away. A broad sofa, curved chair and storage coffee table make this coastal room useful even when nobody is looking outside. Mineral blue appears in the artwork and textiles, leaving the furniture free of seaside costume.

The coastal feeling begins with the view, but the furniture does not rely on it. A broad cream sofa, a compact curved chair and a table with real storage make an ordinary, useful sitting room.
Coastal Tones carries the palest blues and greys onto the solid wall. Those colours return in the curtain and cushions, while the rug and wicker pendant supply warmer texture. There is no need for a nautical motif to explain the setting.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
Give the view a useful room to look into.
Colour palette
- Chalk
- Faded mineral blue
- Sandy timber
- Warm white
- Soft grey-green
Give the coffee table a job
The central drawer and open shelves offer places for the small things a living room accumulates. Its rounded corners soften the rectangular seating group.
Let art carry the suggestion
The portrait artwork carries pale blue and grey onto the solid wall, away from the window. That small repetition connects the two sides of the room without another literal view of the sea.
WHAT TO BORROW
Build a coastal palette from one pale blue, one warm white and a timber tone. Choose the furniture for daily life before adding the finishing references.
