A quiet cabinet front
The glossy white doors provide a smooth patch beside the rough stone. Storage sits immediately beneath the basin, making the most useful place for toiletries part of the same compact piece.

An illustrated concept for Welsh stone-house bathroom.
The deep stone window reveal supplies the texture in this compact bathroom. A plain white vanity gives toiletries somewhere to go, while chrome crosshead controls and a ribbed glass wall light keep the details small.
See the product sourcesThere is already plenty to look at in that window reveal. Rough stone, a deep sill and the green-grey frame give this Welsh bathroom concept its strongest detail, so the vanity can be reassuringly plain. Its two doors put storage directly below the basin, leaving the narrow top for soap. A compact chrome mixer introduces a small curve against the square cabinet and mirror. Beside it, the ribbed glass globe casts a warmer light over the plaster. The combination suits a bathroom that needs to deal with ordinary bottles as well as look good.

Keep the metal details small
Chrome at the basin and brass at the light give the fittings separate jobs. Because both occupy small areas, their different finishes sit comfortably within the stone, white and muted grey palette.
What to borrow
When an old wall or window reveal already has strong texture, try simpler bathroom furniture beside it. Keep the everyday storage close to the basin, and check that the chosen light is suitable for its intended bathroom position.
