ROOM 152 · Bathroom

Past the vanity, towards the bath

Published

A contemporary traditional family house, conceived for Franklin, TN.

Drawers and mirrors belong near the dressing area, where the morning starts. Farther in, the tub sits beyond the passing traffic. The aisle between them lets one person keep moving while another stays put.

THE DESIGN

The cabinet occupies the dressing side of the room. The coffee-colored tub sits farther in beneath the window, beyond the route used to reach the sinks. The plan separates a brief daily task from somewhere a person may stay longer.

Pale woodgrain distinguishes the vanity from the brown tub. A wide illuminated mirror serves the counter; glass and a solid door give showering and toilet use different boundaries. Those divisions matter more to sharing the room than matching every fixture.

WHY THE ROOM WORKS

Separate working and bathing ends give a shared bathroom a quieter daily rhythm.

01

Work near the entrance

The vanity belongs to the dressing side of the room.

02

A quieter destination

The tub sits beyond the passing traffic.

03

Different fittings, related tones

The pale woodgrain vanity and brown tub remain distinct across the room. Their related tones leave the plan readable without adding another decorative surface.

04

Separate boundaries

Shower glass and a toilet door give different activities their own places.

WHAT TO BORROW

Let the room become quieter as someone moves farther into it.
