The cherry-red breakfast room

Published

A compact breakfast room with a small oak table and a bright window.

The table can be almost bare and this breakfast room still has plenty to look at. Cherry walls, a red pendant and one apple print let two places and a morning cup be enough.

THE DESIGN

A breakfast room has to work before anyone has arranged the flowers. The useful starting point here is the Coxmoor table: a compact square top that leaves the window and route through the room visible. Two Piermount chairs give it a more deliberate outline, with curved black backs and reflective silver legs against warm timber.

The red is carried by broad wall surfaces and the Toan pendant. Keeping that decision concentrated gives ordinary things, a mug, a bowl, a piece of toast, somewhere calm to sit. Pale fabric at the window softens the light without dissolving the colour into a pastel scheme.

Minimalist Apple makes the strongest connection between the table and the wall. Its simple red form has enough pale space around it to remain clear at a glance. Below, the Tula cabinet provides a second surface and enclosed storage, keeping the little table available for the meal it was put there to hold.

WHY THE ROOM WORKS

The everyday table deserves the best colour in the house.

Colour palette

  • Cherry red
  • Butter yellow
  • Oak
  • Black velvet
  • Polished silver
01

Choose the table for Tuesday

The 75cm square Coxmoor table establishes a modest everyday arrangement. Check chair width and the route behind a seated person before borrowing it for a small room.

02

Put contrast at sitting height

Black velvet gives the pale oak top a definite edge. Silver legs catch the window light and keep the chairs visually lighter below the seats.

03

Give red somewhere to stop

Pale window fabric and the apple print's background interrupt the red walls. The room keeps its energy without repeating the colour on every surface.

04

Keep a spare surface

The Tula cabinet takes the objects that would otherwise crowd the table. Its timber also brings a second warm material to the painted room.

WHAT TO BORROW

Give an everyday eating corner one confident wall colour, then protect enough tabletop to use it without a morning rearrangement.
