Scale comes before quantity
A broad bed, substantial lamps and a proper dresser occupy the room with confidence. More small pieces would create activity without solving the proportions.

The lake-blue bedroom
Published
An imagined contemporary home beside a lake.
A large bed can still leave a bedroom feeling underfurnished. The bench and chest give this lake-blue room somewhere to get dressed and put things down.
See the product sourcesTHE DESIGN
The broad window draws attention beyond the bed, so the furniture needs a presence elsewhere too. The chest holds everyday clothes; the bench gives dressing a seat away from the mattress. Neither should narrow the route around the foot of the bed.
Cane breaks up the large headboard. Blue surrounds it, with lighter bedding keeping the sleeping surface distinct from the frame. This is a UK super king selection, with its mattress bought separately; check current delivery and the complete bed footprint before translating the arrangement into another room.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
A large bedroom feels better when the furniture has enough confidence to match the scale.
Colour palette
- Lake blue
- Warm ivory
- Natural mango
- Hemp
- Charcoal
The window gets a clear route
The dressing area sits beside the glazing, with visible floor between it and the bed. Daylight remains part of the room rather than a backdrop behind furniture.
Blue gives the neutrals an identity
Natural wood, white linen and hemp could become anonymous together. The blue wall and bedding give those materials a place and a mood.
The rug connects the useful pieces
Its 300cm width extends beyond the bed, while the bench shares the woven surface. The result reads as one sleeping area within a larger room.
Open cane lightens a substantial frame
The headboard and footboard have presence without becoming solid barriers. Their weave brings texture where another ornamental object would add little.
WHAT TO BORROW
In a generous room, increase the presence of the few pieces that matter before increasing their number.
