A door changes the mood
The snug can separate from kitchen noise, even while it remains close to family life.

ROOM 118 · Living Room
A new contemporary extension, conceived for Cambridge.
Not every extension needs another open space. This jade snug sits just behind the kitchen, close enough to family life but small enough to offer a genuine retreat.

The useful feature is the possibility of separation. A door can take the edge off kitchen noise while the sofa remains only a few steps from everyone else. The room does not have to work for a whole gathering at once.
A compact sofa and oval table leave a clear entrance. Jade takes the broader wall, with peach on the low window-side cupboards and pale timber nearer the seats. The purple cushion is a small change of temperature rather than the beginning of another palette.
Green Ocean gives the eye something to follow once the day is done. The sea-green lamp provides a lower pool of light than the kitchen needs. This is a room for half an hour of privacy, which is a substantial use for a modest space.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
The snug can separate from kitchen noise, even while it remains close to family life.
The compact sofa and low oval table leave a clear route into the room.
Peach window-side cupboards change the temperature beside the jade wall without adding another dark plane.
The sea-green light makes a quiet corner rather than repeating the kitchen brightness.
WHAT TO BORROW
Decide how many people this second sitting room really needs to hold. A smaller sofa can leave room for the door that makes it a retreat.
