A light desk frame
Glass and brass leave more of the window wall visible.

ROOM 182 · Other
A converted brick outbuilding, conceived for Oxfordshire.
A desk is only part of a good working room. Here, the glass top sits beneath the garden window, with books close by and a comfortable chair a few steps away. Claret panelling makes the old brick feel warmer, and sage-painted frames give the view a quiet border.

The brass desk frame is fine enough to leave the lower wall visible. A leather cantilever chair supplies the heavier note, its open base keeping the small work area easy to read.
The linen armchair has a floor lamp and a reachable surface for a cup. It is a useful place to take a paper away from the desk, while the clear side passage keeps the garden door free.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
Glass and brass leave more of the window wall visible.
An armchair offers a comfortable place for reading away from the desk.
Claret panelling gives the old masonry a warmer companion.
The furniture sits clear of the approach to the garden door.
WHAT TO BORROW
Make room to read away from the desk, even if it means choosing a lighter worktable.
