The Parisian kitchen from the dining end

Published

A pistachio apartment kitchen seen through its opening from a small dining area.

Pistachio joinery carries the eye from a round dining table into a compact kitchen. Cane chairs, a small fluted cabinet and a vivid citrus print connect the two spaces while allowing each to keep its own job.

THE DESIGN

Two small rooms do not always need to become one large one. A convincing view between them can provide a connection while keeping cooking and eating distinct. Here, pistachio repeats around the opening and on the kitchen joinery, taking the eye beyond the dining table towards the second window.

The Luca table makes a compact circular centre, with a marble-effect top and single black pedestal. Two Cebu cane chairs give the dining area a more open outline. Their timber carries warmth across the pale floor, so the connection to the kitchen depends on material as well as matching paint.

The Solis mini sideboard is deliberately small. It adds enclosed storage and a low home for the amber Johano lamp without filling the wall beside the opening. Above it, Juicy Lemons II supplies the liveliest colour in the view. The print's pink ground and green leaves relate to both rooms, giving the dining end its own focal point when the kitchen is in use.

WHY THE ROOM WORKS

The view between rooms can do the connecting.

Colour palette

  • Pistachio
  • Chalk
  • Amber wood
  • Aubergine
  • Lemon
01

Repeat colour through the opening

Pistachio links the door surround and cabinetry. The eye reads continuity without needing every wall to carry the same shade.

02

Use a compact dining centre

The 80cm round top gives two chairs a clear relationship. A single pedestal removes corner legs, but the chairs still need their own moving space.

03

Respect the small cabinet

The Solis is a mini piece, listed at 53cm high and 55cm wide. Its low position is part of this arrangement, rather than a substitute for a full serving sideboard.

04

Give the dining wall its own picture

Juicy Lemons II adds a strong citrus composition beyond the table. The artwork stays away from the kitchen's splash and cooking surfaces.

WHAT TO BORROW

Before removing a wall, consider the view through its opening. Repeated colour, floor material and one well-placed artwork can connect rooms while preserving useful separation.
