The peach-and-chrome dressing room

Published

An apartment dressing room with a bay window and an arched entrance.

Clothes and small daily things easily take over a bed. This dressing room gives them a walnut surface, a chair beside daylight and a wardrobe of their own.

THE DESIGN

The bed becomes a dressing table surprisingly easily. Clothes land on it, small things lose their place and the morning begins with a search. This room gives those actions somewhere more useful to happen: a California walnut dressing table, a seated position beside natural light and an Alba wardrobe for the larger accumulation.

The table's folded mirror keeps the surface visually quiet when it is closed. The Gio chair introduces a familiar working comfort, while its ivory upholstery and chrome frame interrupt the heavier timber. A floor lamp brings light lower in the room, although any arrangement for grooming still needs to be checked for shadows at the face.

Peach is most persuasive here beside the darker walnut. The geometric shapes in Composition No11 Velvet Geometry give the wall a firmer rhythm than another decorative mirror would. Curves remain in the entrance and window, allowing the freestanding furniture to keep its straightforward outline.

WHY THE ROOM WORKS

Getting ready improves when it has a surface of its own.

01

Separate preparation from sleep

A dressing surface gives small daily objects a permanent address. The wardrobe can hold clothing while the table remains available for the task in hand.

02

Use the window sideways

Daylight reaches the seated area from the side. Check the actual mirror view at the hours you use it; a bright room can still cast an awkward facial shadow.

03

Let metal sharpen the peach

Chrome on the chair and lamp catches small highlights against the warmer wall. The contrast keeps peach from turning the entire room sugary.

04

Give the wall a different shape

Composition No11 Velvet Geometry adds angular colour above the walnut. It sits alongside the room's curves without imitating them.

WHAT TO BORROW

Before adding another mirror, give getting ready a usable surface, reachable storage and a chair that belongs at that height.
