ROOM 156 · Other
A desert-modern detached house, conceived for Tucson, AZ.
In this Tucson patio, the most desirable place is already decided before the furniture arrives: it is the part under the roof. A low violet-cushioned bench gives that shade a permanent occupant. Two sling chairs draw up to a round table, leaving the route into the garden open beside them. Beyond the roof edge, the light becomes much harder. The contrast makes the sheltered room feel generous without filling it.

The roof draws a sharp distinction between exposed garden and sheltered room. Low furniture belongs beneath it, leaving the dry landscape visible beyond. The built-in bench takes the solid wall; the sling chairs can face it without making another wall of upholstery.
Violet cushions give the pale structure a quiet but definite color. A round Oxford table gathers the seats, and the organic Woodrock side table supplies a different timber shape. The planting stays outside the conversation rather than becoming a row of accessories around it.
