Colour moves overhead
Celadon occupies the ceiling, visible from every seat. Warm white walls keep the pictures and cabinet distinct below it.

ROOM 131 · Living Room
A modernised victorian townhouse, conceived for Islington.
Colour does not have to stop at the cornice. A pale celadon ceiling changes this modernised Victorian sitting room from above, leaving walnut, warm white and one red lamp to organise the lower view.
See the product sourcesTHE DESIGN
The ceiling is treated as a broad, quiet surface rather than a decorative feature to outline repeatedly. Its colour reaches the eye from every seat, while the walls remain light enough for the art and cabinet to register.
Walnut gives the lower half of the room a definite weight. A simple long table follows the sofa, with an open route beside the group. The contemporary furniture keeps the Victorian shell from dictating a period reconstruction.
The still life brings blue into the room without demanding a matching chair. Red arrives through the lamp as a sharper interruption. Looking upward becomes part of understanding the scheme, rather than something the room asks only of visitors standing in the doorway.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
Celadon occupies the ceiling, visible from every seat. Warm white walls keep the pictures and cabinet distinct below it.
The low cabinet gives the pale walls a darker edge. Its height leaves most of the wall available rather than enclosing the room in timber.
The long low top stays aligned with the seating and clear of the doorway.
One lamp supplies the sharper colour; it does not need matching cushions around the room.
WHAT TO BORROW
Test a large patch of ceiling colour from the sofa. It will be part of the seated view for longer than it is part of the view from the doorway.
