Keep the seating base open
The breakfast surface has real space beneath it, rather than stools pressed against cupboard fronts. The main storage stays in the surrounding cabinetry.

Walnut cabinetry, pale stone, woven stools and architectural photography
Pull a stool up to the breakfast surface and there is actually somewhere for your knees. Keeping the base open makes a generous walnut kitchen easier to cross and sit in. The cupboards do the storage work around the edges.
See the product sourcesTHE DESIGN
The walnut runs through the surrounding cabinets, so the stone-topped breakfast table can have a lighter frame. Stools tuck beneath it instead of standing permanently in the aisle. Their cane backs let you see through the group towards the rest of the kitchen.
Clear glass pendants leave the window in view. On the dry wall, Mid-Century White supplies a second architectural view at a smaller scale. A faded-red runner puts a little colour on the pale floor; the room needs very little more.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
The breakfast surface has real space beneath it, rather than stools pressed against cupboard fronts. The main storage stays in the surrounding cabinetry.
Clear-glass pendants give the room a point of interest above the worktop without creating a heavy shape in front of the window.
The photograph belongs on the plaster wall away from the working splashback. Its white architecture and natural planting relate to the materials without copying them.
WHAT TO BORROW
Choose the timber, worktop and floor together. Once those surfaces agree, use lighting and one artwork to add character at a smaller scale.

Brushed silver and easy-access freezer drawers
The brushed silver finish sits comfortably beside deep blue cabinetry and warm timber. This freestanding Haier model has one upper fridge door and two separate freezer drawers, with a slim control panel that keeps the front visually simple. The selected version is the 360-litre, E-rated model without a water dispenser. It measures 59.5cm wide, 66.7cm deep and 185cm high; check the manufacturer's ventilation and door-opening clearances when planning its position. Cabinetry and accessories shown are styling props.
