A poolside seat for the non-swimmer

Published

A large garden-oriented house, conceived for Winter Park, FL.

Not everyone wants to swim, and a poolside room should make that easy. Here the loungers take the brighter deck, while a small sofa stays beneath the solid roof. There is room to walk between the two without stepping into the splash zone. Pale surfaces and a fine screen structure let the garden remain the strongest presence.

THE DESIGN

The pool is only one way to spend the afternoon. A shaded loveseat gives somebody with a book or a cup of coffee a place to remain involved. The brighter lounge area sits apart from it, with a visible route connecting the two.

White aluminum loungers keep the pool edge orderly without adding much visual weight. Their wheels and low profiles suit the open deck; the small cylindrical table supplies the necessary landing. The fine enclosure structure lets planting remain the larger background.

WHY THE ROOM WORKS

The lounge sits where people can remain dressed, shaded and involved without sitting in the splash zone.
