ROOM 173 · Other
A suburban family house, conceived for Hugo, MN.
There is room here to leave a game out. The low square table sits between a navy sofa and two woven chairs, with the garden door comfortably to one side. Green walls and plum textiles give the daylight a little color to work on, so the room has character even when the view is mostly lawn.

The sofa floats beneath the broad windows, facing the chairs. Its open timber frame feels at ease with the lighter woven seats, while the large rug ties their different shapes together.
Roman shades make the window wall adjustable. The shallow coffer gives the solid ceiling a finished edge, and a small landscape on the green wall provides a quieter view when the light outside begins to fade.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
The square surface is useful from the sofa and both chairs.
Green walls soften the bright white trim without swallowing the light.
Woven chairs keep the sitting group visually light.
The door sits beside the furniture, with clear floor leading to it.
WHAT TO BORROW
Set out the chairs for a conversation before deciding where the sofa should meet the wall.
