The door is part of the brief
A clear swing and a closing door matter more here than another shelf.

ROOM 121 · Workspace
A converted box room in a 1930s house, conceived for Leicester.
The most useful luxury in a home office may be a door. This small celadon room concentrates on a workable desk, a proper office chair and a clear boundary between the working day and the house beyond it.
See the product sourcesTHE DESIGN
A compact desk sits near side light. The chair needs space to pull back, and the door needs its full swing; those two movements decide how much of this box room remains for storage.
Chocolate-brown upholstery gives the adjustable chair a quieter presence than glossy office hardware. The red lamp is a single point of warmth against celadon and white. A small amount of shallow storage keeps papers from claiming the entire desk.
Pencils supplies a little humour without becoming motivational office art. At the end of the day, the useful act is to put the work away and close the door. The room should make that transition possible, not advertise productivity to the rest of the house.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
A clear swing and a closing door matter more here than another shelf.
The adjustable office chair replaces a dining chair in a room intended for sustained use.
Side light reaches the work surface without placing the screen directly against a bright window.
Small baskets and wall storage take loose papers off the working surface.
WHAT TO BORROW
Open the door and pull the chair back before measuring for shelves. Preserve those movements, then give the paperwork a place that can close with the working day.
