Work with north light
The pale walls spread cooler daylight across the desk without a theatrical sunbeam.

ROOM 122 · Workspace
A warehouse loft conversion, conceived for Sheffield.
This warehouse corner is planned for cooler north light. Pale walls leave the changing work easy to see, with the strongest colour reserved for the picture beyond the desk.

The loft provides volume, but the working area remains specific. The desk has daylight from the side and space behind the chair. Exposed structure stays visible above it, with no decorative ceiling treatment trying to make the building more interesting than it is.
Pale timber softens the concrete floor without disguising it. Wall storage takes materials off the desktop, while the lamp offers a local source for darker afternoons. The furniture can look composed and still tolerate a project in progress.
Fields gives the far wall a clear block of colour. Ultramarine elsewhere is kept deliberate, rather than repeated in every container. This is a corner for making and considering things, with enough unclaimed surface left for the next piece of work.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
The pale walls spread cooler daylight across the desk without a theatrical sunbeam.
A clear area behind it keeps the desk usable rather than wedged into a styled corner.
The block-colour print gives the long view a destination while the working surface stays clear.
Wall-hung storage carries materials above the floor, preserving the loft openness.
WHAT TO BORROW
Look at materials on the actual desk through the day. Let the window light do what it can, then add task light for the hours and work it cannot cover.
