ROOM 147 · Bathroom
A blue tub beside the morning rush
Published
A large new-build family house, conceived for Hugo, MN.
Two people can be getting ready at once without needing two of everything. Here, the double vanity does the weekday work while a blue tub occupies a quieter side of the room. Pale yellow surrounds the blue tub, leaving the white fixtures distinct. There is space to pass behind someone at the sink, and a closed door for the things that need privacy. The luxury is partly what the plan lets happen at the same time.

The blue tub sits alongside the route, making it a destination without turning it into an obstacle. Pale yellow walls give the cool daylight a gentle counterweight. The rest of the room can remain quiet because the bath already supplies a decisive color.
Two vessel basins give the compact double vanity a clear rhythm. A broad wood-framed mirror joins them, while separate shower and toilet enclosures let the room support more than one routine. The useful luxury is the ability to get on with things independently.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
A freestanding blue tub and a compact double vanity share a generous room without making every surface oversized.
Colour palette
- Pale primrose
- Prussian blue
- Natural wood
- White
A compact double
Two vessel basins share one useful cabinet.
Yellow beside blue
Pale yellow occupies the wall around the cool blue tub. The remaining fixtures can stay white without making the whole room one pale surface.
Privacy in the plan
Separate enclosures allow simultaneous use.
WHAT TO BORROW
Give a distinctive tub a proper place instead of automatically centering it.
