Specify the winter use
The solid roof and enclosure are part of the proposal. Check the building's thermal performance and ventilation before expecting an outdoor-facing room to stay comfortable through winter.

ROOM 129 · Other
A garden room in a modern detached home, conceived for Hampshire.
The garden cannot supply much colour after dark. Apricot walls and a blue sofa give this enclosed room an indoor view, with a lamp beside the seats when the glazing turns reflective.
See the product sourcesTHE DESIGN
This solid-roofed, enclosed room is intended for winter use; that depends on its insulation, heating and ventilation as well as its furniture. The seating group comes away from the door route, leaving a clear way into the garden. Planting occupies the brighter edge rather than spreading across the furniture.
The blue sofa supplies a strong lower line against apricot. A light Ercol chair and narrow-framed table keep the other shapes open, so the room does not become a block of upholstery at the glass. The wool rug gives the group a distinct place on the floor.
Deep Blue extends the colour through line rather than another large painted surface. A lamp makes the room useful when the garden fades. There is no need to imitate summer; the appeal is being comfortable while looking out at a different season.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
The solid roof and enclosure are part of the proposal. Check the building's thermal performance and ventilation before expecting an outdoor-facing room to stay comfortable through winter.
The deep-blue sofa gives the pale warm walls a deliberate counterweight.
A small group at the bright edge leaves the seating and table usable.
The coffee table runs with the sofa, leaving the door approach outside the group.
WHAT TO BORROW
Sit facing into the room as well as towards the garden. Give the darker hours a picture, light and usable seats, and resolve winter comfort in the building specification.
