Winter use begins with the building
Solid lower walls and a roof lantern are part of the proposal. Their appearance cannot establish thermal performance; winter use depends on the actual envelope, heating and ventilation.

ROOM 106 · Other
A insulated orangery addition to a country house, conceived for North Yorkshire.
June is the easy test for a garden room. This orangery is planned around a colder day, with a sitting group away from the glass and something to look at after the garden disappears.

The seats come away from the perimeter, leaving the doors accessible. A pale sofa and patterned green chair meet around the zinc table; its worn surface makes a different sort of detail from the neat glazing. The rug belongs to this group, while plants stay near the brighter glass.
Pistachio and peach take the winter daylight without making every surface white. The Farmhouse painting gives the room an indoor view after dark. A lamp and throw can support an evening here, but they cannot establish winter comfort on their own. The intended insulation, heating, ventilation and shading need resolving in the building specification.
WHY THE ROOM WORKS
Solid lower walls and a roof lantern are part of the proposal. Their appearance cannot establish thermal performance; winter use depends on the actual envelope, heating and ventilation.
A usable margin around the furniture keeps the glazed doors accessible.
The zinc table carries a little weathering into the otherwise neat room.
The painting and lamp give the seats something to turn towards once the glazing reflects the interior. The room's evening use need not depend on a visible garden.
WHAT TO BORROW
Plan what the seats face after sunset, then check that the building can support the winter use you want. Furniture comes after that decision.
